CSDS was founded and incorporated in September 1993 for the purpose, as stated in the bylaws:
"The Connecticut Swing Dance Society, Inc. (CSDS) is a nonprofit society organized for the purpose of preserving and promoting the indigenous American dance form known as 'Swing'. The purpose is accomplished by creating a community of swing dancers, by fostering workshops, holding practice sessions and sponsoring dances open to the general public."
In 1995 the organization obtained a 501-C-3 non-profit status.
Events include music and instruction focused primarily on east coast and west coast styles of swing.
Connecticut Swing Dance Society is a non-profit, volunteer-run organization dedicated to creating and serving a vibrant swing community for dancers of all levels. Participants can meet people with similar dance interests and learn to dance in a relaxed and casual environment!
All events are open to the general public and partners are never required.
Our dances are held at several locations so please check the monthly swing dance schedule for dates and locations.
Are you from out of town? Contact our housing coordinator if you need to arrange a place to stay while dancing in CT.
We would love to hear from you! Have any suggestions or comments about classes, dances, or workshops? Send us feedback!
